About John Nickel
I’m compassionate, friendly, unassuming, non-judgmental, and calm—or so I think. I’ve become a deep listener. I try to bring different facets of my personality, when appropriate, to bear in coaching engagements and make the process fun. My first impulses are always being empathetic and building trust. I want to understand where clients are coming from and create an environment conducive for an open conversation. Then in an inviting and hopefully engaging way, I try to push clients sufficiently—and each client is different—for them to get the outcomes they want.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Certified Professional Coach (Coaches Training Institute)
Consultant, Bain & Company
Script supervisor, independent film
EDUCATION:
M.B.A. in Finance, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
M.A., English Literature, Columbia University
B.A. in Liberal Studies, University of Notre Dame (magna cum laude)
On a personal note, I love traveling, sports, politics, cooking, and the arts—particularly film and music. I’m fascinated how leaders in various disciplines—from sports coaches (like Carlo Ancelotti and Jürgen Klopp) to film directors (like Robert Altman and Ed Burns)—motivate and get great performances from their “teams.”
